Pitch Perfect: Creating an Elevator Pitch that Gets Results

An elevator pitch is a concise, persuasive summary of what you do or offer. It should be brief enough to explain your product or service in the time it takes for a short elevator ride (roughly 30-60 seconds).

A good elevator pitch should include who you are, what you do, why it’s valuable, and what makes you unique.

To write a great elevator pitch, first identify your target audience. Creating a buyer or audience persona, which is a representation of your ideal client, is a very useful exercise that will help you clearly define your audience.

The next part of your elevator pitch should address the problem you can solve for your audience and speak to their pain points.

Then, explain the solution you offer in simple, straightforward language. Study your industry and become an expert in the products and services that you offer.

Emphasize your key strengths and qualifications to make your pitch stand out. Highlight the key benefits and features of your service or product. Make sure to share the value that you bring to the table.

Decide what action you want the person to take after listening to your pitch. Do you want them to schedule an appointment, get a quote, or sign-up for a special offer? The purpose of your pitch is to motivate the person to take action. Make sure you select an appropriate next step based on the person you are addressing.

When perfecting your pitch, make sure to practice it out loud to get a feel for the delivery and timing. Also, make sure to tailor it to the person or group you're speaking with as much as possible.

Finally, be confident and enthusiastic when delivering your pitch!
